Question 1

What types of gas fills does Kilted Adventures provide?

Accepted Answer

We fill SCUBA air, Nitrox, oxygen, Argon, aviation oxygen, and oxygen-compatible air when appropriate. Fills are analyzed as part of our normal fill process. We also perform cylinder VIP inspections.

Question 2

Do I need an appointment for a gas fill?

Accepted Answer

Yes. All fills are by appointment. We are not a walk-in shop. Contact us by phone or email to schedule — we'll confirm availability and arrange a time that works.

Question 3

Can you deliver fills to my location?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We provide mobile gas-fill support on the Kenai Peninsula by appointment when scheduling, location, and conditions allow. We can bring fills to your dock, boat launch, or staging area in Homer and surrounding coastal areas. Other locations are considered on a case-by-case basis — just ask.

Question 4

What does OCA-certified air mean?

Accepted Answer

OCA stands for Oxygen Compatible Air. It means the air has been produced and handled using equipment and procedures that meet oxygen-clean standards — important for divers using high-oxygen mixes or oxygen-compatible systems. Our system is maintained and sampled to support oxygen-compatible air service.

Question 5

Are all fills tested?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Kilted Adventures analyzes fills as part of our normal fill process. Nitrox fills are checked with a field oxygen analyzer, and customers receiving Nitrox should personally verify and confirm their mix before use. Annual laboratory samples are also completed for our compressor breathing air and Nitrox system to help confirm that our fill system is meeting applicable breathing gas standards. Laboratory testing is not performed on every individual fill.

How does Kilted Adventures verify breathing gas quality?

Accepted Answer

Kilted Adventures uses field analysis for customer fills and completes annual laboratory samples of our compressor breathing air and Nitrox system. In the field, we currently use a Nuvair QuickStick oxygen analyzer for Nitrox analysis and customer verification. We are also continuing to build out a larger gas analysis setup that includes a Nuvair Pro O2 analyzer.

Question 7

Do you fill tanks for commercial or marine operations?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We support oyster farms, fishing vessels, and other marine operators with air and gas fills as needed. Contact us to discuss your requirements.

Question 8

What is a cylinder VIP inspection?

Accepted Answer

A VIP (Visual Inspection Program) is an annual internal inspection of your SCUBA cylinder to check for corrosion, damage, and serviceability. Most fill stations — including ours — require a current VIP sticker before filling a tank. We perform VIP inspections by appointment.

Is there a credit card surcharge?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A 3% surcharge applies to credit card payments. Cash and other payment methods avoid this fee.

Do you offer guided dive trips in Homer?

Accepted Answer

Kilted Adventures may provide guided dive support in Kachemak Bay and along parts of the Kenai Peninsula coast for certified divers. Availability depends on scheduling, conditions, location, equipment, and safety considerations. Cold-water experience is helpful, and all dives are planned based on diver readiness and local conditions.

What certification do I need to dive with Kilted Adventures?

Accepted Answer

A valid SCUBA certification card is required for guided dive activity. Open Water certification may be sufficient for some dives, depending on conditions and the planned site. Divers who have been out of the water for a while may need a refresher or additional preparation before diving in cold Alaska water.

What is the water like in Kachemak Bay?

Accepted Answer

Kachemak Bay is cold, dynamic, and productive. Water temperatures commonly range from the mid-30s to low 50s Fahrenheit depending on season, depth, and location. Visibility can vary widely with weather, tides, plankton, runoff, and site conditions. The bay supports a rich marine ecosystem that may include anemones, sea stars, rockfish, nudibranchs, kelp, and other cold-water marine life.

Do I need to bring my own gear?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Kilted Adventures does not operate a full rental shop. Divers are expected to bring their own equipment. If you need to source gear in Alaska, Dive Alaska in Anchorage may be a useful option. Contact us if you have questions about what to bring.

Are dive trips available year-round?

Accepted Answer

Diving in Kachemak Bay may be possible year-round for properly equipped and qualified divers, but availability depends on weather, tides, visibility, sea state, scheduling, equipment, and safety considerations. Contact Kilted Adventures to discuss timing and whether conditions are appropriate.

Question 15

Can I go snorkeling in Homer without SCUBA certification?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Snorkeling does not require SCUBA certification, but cold Alaska water, tides, visibility, surf, and marine conditions still require proper gear, judgment, and preparation. Bishop Beach in Homer may be a reasonable starting point for properly equipped snorkelers when conditions allow. Kilted Adventures can discuss basic local considerations such as beach entry, visibility, navigation, exposure protection, and safety planning by inquiry.

What remote snorkeling locations do you support?

Accepted Answer

Remote snorkeling locations such as Jakalof Bay, Tutka Bay, and Sadie Cove may be possible by water taxi or other local transportation, depending on conditions, scheduling, access, equipment, and safety considerations. These locations can offer a more remote cold-water experience than areas near Homer, but access and suitability are handled case by case. Contact Kilted Adventures to discuss logistics.

Question 17

What should I bring for snorkeling in Homer or Kachemak Bay?

Accepted Answer

Bring cold-water exposure protection appropriate for Alaska conditions, such as a wetsuit or drysuit depending on conditions and personal tolerance, along with a mask, fins, snorkel, gloves, hood, and any personal safety gear. Dry layers for before and after are strongly recommended. Kilted Adventures does not operate as a full rental shop, so confirm gear needs before making plans.

What commercial marine services does Kilted Adventures offer?

Kilted Adventures may provide practical marine support by inquiry, including gas-fill coordination, underwater visual inspection support, light bottom-work support where appropriate, and field assistance for specific marine tasks. We are not a full-scale industrial diving contractor, salvage company, emergency response provider, or underwater construction company. Services depend on conditions, location, equipment, safety requirements, access, permitting, and project scope.
